Prof. W A J M De Costa – New Chairman of Tea Research Board

Prof. W A J M De Costa, Senior Professor of Crop Science, Chair of the Department of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya has officially begun his role as the Chairman of the Tea Research Board, today (09 December 2024) at the Tea Research Institute of Sri Lanka, Talawakelle.

He is an experienced University Professor and Senior Research Scientist on Eco-Physiology and Agronomy of Agricultural Crops, Agroecosystems, Forest Ecosystems, Agro-forestry systems, Climate change and its impact on Agriculture and Forestry and expert on the fields of Agriculture and Plant Eco-physiology. Prof. Costa has been serving as a member of the Consultative Committee (CCR) on Research at TRI from 2005 and as the Chairman of CCR, since 2019 making him well-familiar with the Institute’s mission and industry challenges.

On his first day as the Chairman, Prof. Costa met all staff members and had an brief discussion at the TRISL auditorium. Staff of TRI, extend their heartfelt congratulations to Prof. Costa for his new appointment as the Chairman of the TRB. We believe, his leadership in transformative advancements in tea Research and Development would ensure the global positioning of TRI as a pioneer in tea research.
