Inaugural Ceremony – 99.8 Mn Project

Government of Sri Lanka has allocated 99.8 Million Rupees for the renovations, and upgrading of the Infrastructure facilities of main station, such as renovations of buildings, staff quarters and water filter plant, laboratories and Administration building, etc.

The foundation laying ceremony for the proposed construction works under special project was held on 27 August 2018, with the participation of Minister of Plantation Industries, Honorable Naveen Dissanayake. The representatives from government organizations at Nuwara Eliya and Talawakelle, attended this occasion.

Dr. M M J P Gawarammana, Chairman, TRBSL welcome the invitees and stated that, TRISL has engaged in many research studies which are addressing the current issues related to the tea industry. Further, Institute is keen on developing its Human Resources, disseminating new knowledge and technology to the small holders and tea plantations. And TRISL taken necessary actions to find solutions to the challenges arising in the industry, such as climate change, productivity and quality improvement, labour shortage, etc.

Deputy Director Research (Production) of the TRISL, Dr. K M Mohotti presented the progress of ongoing research activities of the institute.

Honorable Minister, Naveen Dissanayake stated that, as a unique institute which disseminates knowledge to tea industry, TRISL has to be more focused to cater the demands arising in the industry. Further, TRISL has a responsibility to guide stakeholders to produce quality tea and prepare them to face future challenges.

TRISL has already taken initiatives to research on alternative weedicides and to issue the guidelines for assuring quality of made tea. Over the past 92 years, TRISL has engaged with the stakeholders and disseminated knowledge and provided support to ensure quality oftea and will continue its operationsguiding future generations. Dr. I S B Abeysinghe, The Director, TRISL, Dr. L S K Hettiarachchi, Additional Director, TRISL and staff of the TRISL were also among the gathering.
