Low Country Regional Centre & St. Joachim Tea Factory Celebrated 50 years of Services

The TRI Low country Regional Centre and St. Joachim factory celebrated their Golden Jubilee in 2014. Commemorating the Golden Jubilee, a series of events viz. an “Open Day” for stakeholders, felicitation of retired officers with long years of service and religious observances (pirith chanting, almsgiving ceremony and kovil pooja) was held on 15-16th August, 2014 at the TRI Low country Regional Centre, Ratnapura and St. Joachim factory with the presence of stakeholders and the past staff members who have toiled and dedicated their most precious time since establishment of the centre/factory.

The TRI Low country Regional Centre, Ratnapura having Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Entomology & Nematology, Process Technology and Advisory and Extension Services units serves the tea smallholdings and corporate sector estates of the low country region. Moreover, low grown tea factories are immensely supported by the staff of the TRI Low country Regional Centre. In addition to research, advisory and extension services, Low country Regional Centre provides training opportunities for a wide range of stakeholders including tea growers, producers, marketers and apprentices. The St. Joachim factory while operates on bought leaf as well and provides its support services to a large number of smallholders in the region.
