TRI won the National Awards for Excellence in Agricultural Research

Dr. I Sarath B Abeysinghe, Director of the TRI, Dr. P A Nimal Punyasiri, SRO, Biochemistry Division and Prof. Vijaya Kumar of the University of Peradeniya were awarded the first prize in the National Awards for Excellence in Agricultural Research for their research on ‘Preformed and induced resistance in the tea plant against Blister Blight disease’.
The award was presented by the Hon. Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Mr. D M Jayaratne on 25th August at a ceremony organized by the Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy (CARP) with the view to promote agricultural research in Sri Lanka.
Hon. Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, senior officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and scientists representing various research institutes of Sri Lanka were also presented at the event.
